Let me see what it promises.
“When I was your age, there was no TV/computer.”
“When I was a kid, my parents were not as liberal with me as I am with you. *Mind it* “
“My parents never pampered me the way I am pampering you.”
“You want a bike/car? When I was young, I used to travel 28435 kilometres by bus. Or walk! *Ominous look*”
“Why do you need a cellphone? When we were in college, we did not have cellphones.” (one of the chief reasons for banning mobiles in college. “If I didnt have one, like hell you will be allowed to keep one”)
People who oppose the Western influence on Indian youngsters may say -
“When I was your age, I did not have a girlfriend.” ( “I didnt get any in college,so I am not gonna allow you to”. Of course, it could mean, “no girl ever wanted to be my girlfriend”. Hmm, I could actually empathize with such a guy.)
And of course,
“I miss the good old days. Things were so much better than they are today.”
Yes, too bad things arent the way they used to be. We could all be dressed in animal skin and go
CAPTAIN CAAAAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAANNNN
I left for Coimbatore last night(Feb 21st) on the Cheran Express. I have travelled many a time on said train and my comfort level is quite high.
Yesterday, my sense of security was shattered by the extorting eunuchs(or hijras) in the train.
While I have encountered them often(and paid them each time) when travelling to Bangalore,Goa,Pune, I have never seen them on a Chennai-Coimbatore train.
It is the worst thing for something bad to happen at the last place you would think it could happen. Its not that being forced to pay them money is something new. Its just that whenever I had to pay them, I used to think(and take comfort in that) these things never happened inside Tamil Nadu.
And this time, when I gave them 10 rupees, they said that there are 10 of them and forced me to give 10 more. I suppose I should be grateful that they did not demand 100 rupees or more (what a stupid world).
I cant believe that this kind of extortion has become commonplace. And I think its definitely weird that whenever they come, you cant find a security guard closeby.
Something has got to be done about this.
Because of this.No other reason ( I prefer delusion to cold hard reality).
I suppose the people who go around doing such distasteful stuff(distasteful IMHO) do it because they have no chance of doing “distasteful” stuff(distasteful in their not so humble opinion).
“We are deadly against Valentine’s Day. We are for civilized love and affection.”
Does he mean “dead against” ? Or that Terrible Valentine’s Day has no hope against them? Knowing these fellows, they may believe the latter as well.
They may be for civilized love and affection, but what about civilized behaviour on the streets?
“Sena activists sent out a diktat against Valentine’s Day celebration and threatened to beat up couples found celebrating their love.”
Perhaps threats of thrashing were made civilly.
Another excerpt: this taken from here
“An attempt to burn effigies of “Man and Woman” by Thevar Thesiya Manram was foiled by police, who arrested 17 members of the association.”
Well, what do you know? I thought these kind of protests were reserved for “Man and Man” and “Woman and Woman” (I understand Earth/Fire/Wind/Water/Heart…I mean, one of Earth/Fire/Water had such elements which shocked our moral society!)
But “Man and Woman”? Then we may as well as ban all movies/tv shows/books, not to mention exiling everyone but bachelors and spinsters(non-dating of course).
I suppose all that is left for the remaining people is “Me and Myself”, which, quite frankly, gets boring after a while.
I feel this guy’s pain/frustration. I really do.
Here is a conversation between me and Aravind.
A: Watch this video, and tell me, does it look familiar?
Me : No. It does not look familiar.
A : Have you seen The Matrix?
Me : Yes.
A : Dood, it is a ripoff from The Matrix.
Me : Yes, I know that.
A : Then what?
Me : You asked if that video was familiar. I have never seen it before, so it is not familiar. QED.
A:
I appeared for the Common Admission Test(CAT) conducted yesterday(Nov 18). My centre was Ethiraj College for Women, here in Chennai. As a result, the one piece of advice I got from almost everyone was to not get too distracted. I guess I should not have taken that advice, as after the test, I might have had some sense of accomplishment
So, I reached the test centre at 9 am, a good 45 minutes before the deadline. At around 9:20am, I took the good advice of my friend to answer the call of nature ( though we were unsure about the probability of a gents toilet in a ladies college. Hey! I haven’t been to any ladies colleges till yesterday! I am good boy. Whatever.). But our fears were unfounded and we relieved ourselves(individually of course. Don’t get any ideas).
This was rather pointless for me anyways. Given the lack of adipose tissue in my body and that butterflies were having a field day in my stomach, by the time the test started, I felt like I absolutely had to go to the toilet. Well, I restrained myself and thought that perhaps it would give me a sense of urgency during the test(hah!).
So, on reading the instructions of the test, I saw that the pattern was the same as last year. So far so good. However, I felt that the paper was far tougher than CAT’06.
I wont go into the details, but it is enough for me to say that I can kiss my chances of getting any IIM call goodbye. I have made way too many idiotic mistakes and have ruined any chance I had.
To all you maths geniuses out there, I have a doubt.
90+30+21 = 140
Will this statement hold good for extremely small values of 21?
I guess I don’t deserve even the worst MBA school in the country
As I engage in a bloody battle with TQM, I find that this cool game helps me keep my sanity at the very least. I also find that Shockwave games seem a bit slow in Firefox. I use Safari or Opera to play such games.

A quick post, no doubt influenced by the TQM End-Semester exam I have tomorrow.
If I recall correctly, there was a question in the second internal assessment regarding the criteria for selection on suppliers.
Having not studied a word, but thinking that this was a general enough question to be attempted, I proceeded to write standard stuff like reliability, quality, punctuality and so on.
I think I got only 1 mark out of 5 for what I had written. Now, looking at the points for said question in the book, I feel I was wronged as I had more or less captured the essence of the answer.
Nevertheless, I suppose I should be thankful for getting 1 mark as it was what saved me from getting only one mark in all.
It is generally said that maturity comes with adulthood. You are supposed to take charge only after you are 18 or 21. Until then, you are, well, immature.
So what quality do you get on turning 18 that suddenly makes you mature? Or is there some biological development that starts only when you are 18(unlike everything else in the human body that develops till you are 18) ?
Maybe its because “adults” dont talk to you about serious business until you are over 18 and therefore, you dont have trysts with such adult matters until you are 18.
Perhaps it is because most people leave the security of their homes after 18 or 21. Perhaps, they become more mature as they learn to live by themselves and face life’s cruelty by themselves rather than depend on their parents.
Or perhaps its just a bloody social thing. Perhaps if kids started talking about “adult” matters earlier, within themselves or with other “adults”, then they might attain maturity earlier. But since we were not consulted in adult matters during our adolescence, why should we involve these spoilt brats who already have an inflated opinion about themselves?
However, whatever the reason, it does seem true that as you grow older, there seems to be a change for the better as far as temperament is concerned. Perhaps after 20 odd years, we finally learn a certain amount of self control and restraint (evolution hasnt blessed us with quick learning it seems).
So, after all this, the main point I am trying to convey – the essence of what I am trying to say – the crux of the issue, is that its been a very very long time since I posted for the first time
