Perhaps this isnt the way to start one’s blog, but given my ignorance ( and my unwillingness to do anything about it) I shall just type what occurs to me to type.
I dont believe in God. But all beliefs, I believe are for the moment ( infer what you will ). As I grow older, I may find reasons to believe in God, but right now, I cant find any. ( However, if God does exist, I find it a bit strange that an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent entity would not show himself/herself clearly to his/her creations. What is the need for this secrecy? Or perhaps, we dont have appointments to meet him/her in person until we die).
On the other hand, I dont think I will ever accept or be part of any organized religion. I do not like the concept of organized religion. Religion seems to require faith and a willingness to set aside logic many a time. “Because God ordained it so” is not good enough a reason for me. Does the concept of God exist to explain the stuff which we are unable to account for? Perhaps, we are trying to hide our lack of knowledge with statements of God’s will, which are not questioned that readily.
A story tends to change with every retelling. If I tell a story today, then in all probability, when it is retold by others shortly thereafter, it may be altered in terms on content or intent. I take such stories with a pinch of salt, accepting that it has been modified from the original atleast once. So it is hardly surprising that I doubt the veracity of the scriptures and holy books that are said to contain the messages of a God to the masses. How can I accept the interpretation of the person who noted the messages of a God? How can I be sure that the author captured the true meaning and spirit behind the rules and principles laid down by the God? Is it not possible that he misunderstood something?
Even if he noted it correctly, when people made more copies of it, what is the guarantee that it was not tweaked to advance their own agenda? To establish their rule over men? Accept me as King and God’s representative on Earth, or be damned for eternity!!!
It seems to me as though a religion originated from the needs of a few men who attempted to structure the lives lived by humans. Wise men, who could not dissuade their fellow beings from robbery, murder and so on, were perhaps forced to use the power of a mythical god to bring order to their society. They might have formed their religion keeping in mind the needs of their society at that point of time, using God here and there to keep people in line, where logic failed.
I am loosing interest in continuing, so I shall wrap it up with this. Given the existence of so many religions and Gods, what could possibly be the truth?
1) Only one God exists. All religions are actually referring to this one being, but through different names. If this be the case, why is there so much of violence due to religions? And why isnt this on benevolent and just God putting an end to all this mindless and meaningless violence?
2)Multiple Gods exist. Here either all Gods are ruling this universe together(but this raises similar issues as point 1) or there is actually a war going on among them to decide who is the Ultimate Ruler of the Universe(yeah I have been reading too many fantasy novels and playing games like Age of Mythology). If this be the case, then people are in trouble if their God does not emerge as the winner(or one of the winners,if they have alliances).
3)No God exists. All put forth by men/women wishing to gain control over others/
Future’s kind of bleak, if you ask me
